| Abstract: |
ATP is the most commonly used phosphoryl group donor for kinases. However, some archaea utilise novel ADP-dependent glucokinases and phosphofructokinases in their glycolytic pathways [PMID:9075622, PMID:11342216, PMID:11717273, PMID:10409652]. These ADP-dependent kinases are homologous to each other but show no significant similarity to any of currently characterised ATP-dependent enzymes. Interestingly this family also contains sequences from higher eukaryotes, though the function of these is not known. |
